L-Carnosine Amino Acid

L-Carnosine Amino Acid

L-Carnosine is a dipeptide, which is a combination of two covalently bonded amino acids, in this case alanine and histidine. It naturally occurs in high concentrations in skeletal muscle tissue, and therefore may support muscle vitality. L-Carnosine also works as an antioxidant that stabilizes cellular membranes, shielding them from damage by free radicals.

L-Carnosine appears to be the most effective anti-carbonylation agent yet discovered. It has the amazing ability to revitalize cells approaching senescence (the end of the life cycle of dividing cells), restoring normal appearance and extending cellular lifespan. L-Carnosine has the potential to revitalize connective tissue cells and thus to benefit wound healing. It can defend cellular DNA from oxidative harm that accumulates with age. It enables the heart muscle to contract more efficiently through enhancement of calcium response in heart myocytes.

L-Carnosine can help in preventing skin collagen cross-linking which leads to loss of wrinkles, elasticity, macro- molecular disorganization, and loss of extracellular matrix. Because L-Carnosine is only found in vertebrates, it is especially important for persons who do not consume beef, pork or chicken.
